Board vacancies 2008

The Advantage West Midlands Board will have two vacancies to fill in 2008.

The current Chairman, Nick Paul steps down in December having served the maximum two terms in office. More detail on the Chair vacancy is available below. There are several RDA Chair vacancies this year and the recruitment process is being handled nationally by the consultancy firm Odgers.

We will also be looking for a representative to fill a local authority board member vacancy to replace Richard Hyde who will also be stepping down in December having served two terms in office. Further details regarding this vacancy will be available in the next few months.

Both appointments will begin on the 14th of December 2008. 

Chair - Advantage West Midlands (AWM).

The Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) has begun the process to find AWM's next Chair.

To be successful the new Chair will need to demonstrate a track record of success as a leader, driver of organisational change and deliverer of strategic objectives; experience of Chairing Boards or committees in either a public or private context; have credible national / international business experience with a sound knowledge of the West Midlands region and its economic needs.

You will need to commit two or three days a week for the next 3 years and will take up your appointment on 14 December 2008.  The remuneration for the Chair appointment is £52,620 for 2 days, £78,931 for 3 days. This is currently under review.

The role of Board members

As a group, Board members are there to:

  • contribute to the development of the West Midlands Economic Strategy and the Corporate Plan
  • ensure Advantage West Midlands delivers its part of the strategy through the Corporate Plan
  • ensure that its partners deliver their part
  • have collective responsibily for making decisions, supporting the Agency in delivering them and standing by those decisions

And as individuals to:

  • have a strategic overview as well as focus on specific areas
  • represent Advantage West Midlands on key groups and associated Boards
  • act as advocates for Advantage West Midlands and for the region
  • attend Board meetings and other meetings
  • abide by the seven principles of public life.
