Pride in Camp Hill

The award winning Pride in Camp Hill programme transformed one of the nation’s most impoverished areas into a thriving, sustainable community.
Dating back to 2000, Pride in Camp Hill is a fifteen year initiative to radically improve a community which suffered enormously with the decline in the mining industry and has been driven by an impetus to improve quality of life and meet priorities set by local people.
Housing on the Camp Hill estate has been transformed, with improvements made to existing homes and the building of 172 new, energy efficient houses, all of which are occupied and 25 per cent of which are ‘affordable housing’. 232 additional homes have been constructed, one third of which are ‘affordable housing’, and a further 820 homes, lanes, open space and attractive streets will replace an area of rundown housing in the coming years.
The creation of a new access road into the centre of Camp Hill and the revamp of community facilities have also had a hugely positive impact. The new village centre has created a vibrant heart which includes new retail outlets, GP led health centre and post office, as well as the impressive glass fronted CHESS (Camp Hill Education, Sports and Social Centre) which itself houses a library, IT and learning facilities, youth area, and recreation hall.
Advantage West Midlands' initial £8.5m investment was vital to the start of the entire project and helped to lever in £122 million of private sector investment into Nuneaton and Bedworth. The total investment projected by 2023 is around £300 million.
The scheme has won numerous awards and received national recognition, including achieving a position on the 2009 list of top 100 regeneration projects, as well as winning the prestigious Community Partnership Awards 2010 for Best Housing, Construction and Infrastructure, receiving additional honours for its partnership working and high quality and design in housing developments.
