17/02/2010
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today announces the appointment of WWRD (owner of Waterford Crystal, Wedgwood and Royal Doulton) to produce commemorative and souvenir merchandise for the London 2012 Games.
To celebrate the 2012 Games, WWRD will be developing highly desirable ranges of ceramic and crystal products for a broad retail market, which will include a number of limited edition Waterford, Wedgwood and Royal Doulton pieces.
Many of the ceramic products will be produced at the Wedgwood plant in Stoke, Staffordshire. Products will go on sale later this year.
This tender was won by Wedgwood by responding to an opportunity posted on the CompeteFor website www.competefor.com. The CompeteFor website - which Advantage West Midlands helps to fund- is the preferred route for tenders from the London 2012 Games.
Advantage West Midlands’ Business Manager London 2012 Games, Jim Johnston, commented "It is fantastic that Wedgwood has won this contract to supply the London 2012 Games. It is an iconic brand incorporating the best of British design and tradition. It is also pleasing that the tender was won through CompeteFor – a single source of tenders from the London 2012 Games”.
