The rural economy is a major contributor to the region’s economy: 35% of the population live in rural areas and it is estimated that 36% of the region’s GVA is generated there; and 80% of the region’s land area is rural.  There is a great diversity across the region’s rural economy.  An in depth understanding is provided by the Agency commissioned reports below.
