West Midlands agriculture occupies over 70% of the region’s land; a total of 26,000 farm holdings on 950,000ha., contributing £952m to GVA.  Land managers have an important role maintaining the landscape, which is often taken for granted, through producing crops and maintaining the environment.  Land on the urban-rural fringe, offers good opportunities to use land in an innovative ways: recreation, composting green waste.  The evidence base below provides more insights.
