BME engagement

A new programme to build capacity of BME third sector organisations

In March 2007 Advantage West Midlands awarded the tender to manage the Agency’s new region-wide programme for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Third Sector organisations to b:RAP formally known as Birmingham Race Action Partnership.

The new Routes to Opportunity (R2O) programme is the first of its kind in the region and will enable BME organisations and individuals to have better access to a range of targeted training, coaching, mentoring, business support, finance and advice.

Delivery of the R2O programme will begin in June 2007 b:RAP will begin to advertise and award tenders to deliver the support, collate sector/market intelligence and recruit organisations/individuals to participate in the programme

Routes to Opportunity (R2O)

Routes to Opportunity (R2O) will run for two years and be available throughout the West Midlands from June 2007. The new programme is a direct response to Agency funded research highlighting the lack of capacity among BME Third sector organisations (voluntary and community sector including social enterprises) to deliver public service contracts. Please click link to view a copy of the Rights & Responsibility research report.

The R2O programme will work with partners to enable BME third sector organisations to:-

  • Take advantage of current and emerging opportunities in public procurement;
  • Successfully secure and deliver contracts;
  • Increase performance and sustainability; and
  • Develop and evaluate models to inform future investment.
