What is a Regeneration Zone?
There are six geographic Regeneration Zones in the West Midlands region which collectively include a third of the region's population, half its unemployed residents, three fifths of its long-term unemployed and the most deprived wards in the region.
The six Regeneration Zones are:
Coventry and Nuneaton
East Birmingham and North Solihull
North Staffordshire
North Black Country and South Staffordshire (Future Foundations)
Rural
South Black Country and North Birmingham (The Arc of Opportunity)
Whilst these areas have concentrated need, they also offer substantial opportunity and one of the key functions of the Regeneration Zones are connecting the opportunities with the need through a variety of projects.
The role of the Regeneration Zones
Each Regeneration Zone prepares a Zone Implementation Plan (ZIP), which is updated annually. The ZIP sets out Regeneration Zone investment priorities and key activities for the following three year period.
Each of the Zones has its own set of priorities in order to address the unique challenges they face. The Zones engage with local communities to ensure any investment directly benefits people and businesses those people in the area. This could be by developing local land and property or ensuring that jobs arising from new developments will benefit local people.
