The Sub-National Review of Economic Development and Regeneration (SNR) was published in July 2007. It presented proposals on how to improve sub-national economic development and to tackle deprivation by enabling regional, sub-regional and local partners to tailor solutions to their specific problems, making best use of available talent and opportunities. This was followed in March 2008 by the publication of the SNR consultation document which sought responses from the regions on key economic development and regeneration issues.
Our regional response was overseen by the West Midlands Strategic Transition Group as part of a broader regional work programme and set out new working arrangements while also reinforcing the collective commitment of all partners to work together to deliver the right results for the region. The Government Sub-National Review response - PDF - 139kb to the consultation process on 25 November 2008. This provided additional detail on a number of key issues includingRegional Select Committees - PDF - 3kb while also serving as a timely reminded for what SNR is all about namely:

Current position May 2009:
- In line with Government’s desire to see Regional Development Agencies and Local Authority Leader Boards’ work together to develop and submit Regional Integrated Strategies, a ‘shadow’ Joint Strategy and Investment Board - PDF - 4kb has now been implemented in the region. This group of six Local Authority Leaders and up to six AWM Board members will oversee all aspects of SNR development and delivery including oversight of the Regional Funding Advice exercise, submitted in February 2009, and the development and implementation of our regional Change Management Programme.
- Over the coming months we will be working with partners to begin scenario planning and visioning for the Single Integrated Regional Strategy (SIRS), develop its evidence base and further commissions relating to sub-regional working and strategic investment planning. All of this information and supplementary detail will be captured and communicated to partners by the SNR Transition Team in the form of SNR update notes.
